General Mills eliminated the use of black pigments in its Liberté yogurt lids by switching to translucent lids. Black pigmentation in yogurt lids limits their sortation by optical sorting at Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), making them difficult to recycle. The lids are now recyclable with the yogurt tub, where polypropylene plastics can be recycled.
